PHYS& 136 - General Physics III
4.0 Credits
Basic concepts in electromagnetism, electronics, and modern physics. Modern physics includes relativity, atomic and nuclear physics, quantum mechanics and sold state physics. Four hours of lecture and two hours of lab weekly (was PHYS& 123). Prerequisite: PHYS& 135 (was PHYS& 122) with a grade of 2.0 or higher and placement in ENGL& 101 (was ENGL 105).
Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding at a non-majors-level of the basic principles of electromagnetism, electronics, and modern physics. [REASON]
- Develop a clear understanding of the scientific method and its application to these principles. [REASON]
- Apply quantitative measures to situations involving these principles and develop a strong facility for working problems based on these principles. [REASON]
- Analyze physical systems to decide what information and principles are relevant to understanding the behavior of the systems. [REASON]
- Clearly communicate fundamental knowledge particular to physics with their peers using appropriate vocabulary. [COMMUNICATE]
