CIS 173 - Cisco Networking III
5.0 Credits
Third in a series of four courses preparing students for the Cisco Certified Network Associate Exam. Topics include the design and implementation of a converged (VoIP, Video, Data) switched network using Virtual LANs (VLANs), Wireless LANs (WLANs), VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP), Spanning Tree Protocol, and Inter-VLAN routing. Prerequisite: CIS 171 with a minimum grade of 2.5 or equivalent experience.
Course-level Learning Objectives (CLOs)
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe enhanced switching technologies and explain how VLANs create logically separate networks, and how routing occurs between them. [REASON]
- Describe standards associated with wireless media. [COMMUNICATE]
- Identify and describe the purpose of the components in a small wireless network, and identify basic configuration parameters on a wireless network to ensure that devices are secure and connect to the correct access points. [COMMUNICATE]
- Identify and resolve common switched network media issues, configuration issues, auto-negotiation, and switch hardware failures. [REASON]
- Manage Cisco IOS configuration files including save, edit, upgrade, and restore. [REASON]
- Configure, verify, and troubleshoot VLANs, trunking on Cisco switches, interVLAN routing, VTP, and RSTP using basic utilities, the show and debug commands. [REASON]
