HORT 256 - Ecological Design for Urban Agriculture
4.0 Credits
A whole systems introduction to regenerative design that applies associated ethics, principles, and tools to urban and small farm agriculture systems. Student teams meet regularly outside of class to work on design projects. Field trips are an integral part of this course. Be prepared to arrive and depart from sites on your own. Prerequisite

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe whole systems and regenerative design ethics, principles, processes, methods, strategies, and techniques and apply these tools to urban and small farm agriculture systems.
- Examine design principles in the context of agroecosystem productivity, resiliency, diversity, and equitability.
- Analyze and assess site conditions, interpret user and client needs, and employ whole systems thinking to real world design challenges and opportunities.
- Integrate design elements of agricultural, natural, and built environments to support multiple functions for resource production and conservation.
- Create design products that respond to user and client needs and demonstrate a comprehensive assimilation of whole systems and regenerative design concepts.
