Provides the basic skills and resources to successfully coordinate and disseminate information to the news media and public during an emergency situation.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- List and describe the responsibilities of a public information officer.
- Describe strategies for developing positive relations with the media and the purpose of a media guide.
- Distinguish between a news release and a media advisory.
- Discuss the basic guidelines on managing the media scene.
- Identify the basic guidelines to follow before and during an interview.
- List and describe the steps in preparing a news conference.
