Horticulture - Urban Agriculture Systems Certificate

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Degrees and Certificates by Type

Program Description This certificate provides a theoretical foundation in urban agriculture through the study of environmental sustainability principles, ecology in agricultural systems, and plant and soil sciences. There is also a combined practical focus on urban agriculture production and enterprises. The production emphasis trains students to cultivate organic food crops for year-round production and harvest in the maritime climate of the Puget Sound bioregion. And the enterprises emphasis trains students to design, plan, and operate agriculture systems relevant to urban environments—including backyard, vertical, rooftop and community gardens, micro-farms, and food hubs and markets. Students explore career options in a seminar and apply knowledge, skills, and techniques through internship, practicum, or research experience. This certificate requires successful completion of a minimum of 44.5 credits as outlined.

Advising Note This program requirement sheet is not a substitute for meeting with an academic advisor. Meeting the requirements to graduate with an Edmonds CC certificate or degree is ultimately the responsibility of the student.
