Energy Management - Associate of Technical Arts Degree

Program Description Individuals pursuing a degree in energy management will be able to apply basic energy management and technical skills in support of businesses as well as electric, gas, and water utility companies and community action agencies engaged in developing energy efficiency applications for homes and businesses. The program includes instruction in principles of energy and energy management, the technologies and techniques allowing for energy efficiency and conservation, energy end-use analysis, monitoring systems, energy use accounting, project management, and report preparation and presentation skills.

Credit/Grade Requirements This ATA degree requires successful completion of a minimum of 96 credits as outlined. A minimum of 30 credits or one-third of the required credits, whichever is less, must be earned at Edmonds CC. Students are required to maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 in all college level courses.

Cultural Diversity Requirement All students earning a degree or certificate of 45 credits or more must meet a cultural diversity (CD) requirement by taking at least five (5) credits of CD courses. Students Are Advised To

  • Plan their schedule several quarters in advance in order to accommodate courses that are offered only once or twice a year,
  • Review the college catalog for required course prerequisites and include these in schedule planning,
  • Communicate with an academic adviser, and
  • Submit an Evaluation Request - Transfer Credits Form (available in Enrollment Services) to activate the process of transferring credits to Edmonds CC.

Graduation Application A completed Graduation Application form must be submitted online by the 10th day of the quarter in which the student expects to graduate. Note: Applications for summer quarter are due by the 8th day of the quarter.

OUTCOMES: 

  • Analyze data and propose greater efficiency in the use of energy.
  • Apply project management concepts and practices to oversee an energy management project or program’s time, cost, and quality.
  • Evaluate the energy use patterns for buildings and recommend energy efficiency measures, equipment, processes and practices, and cost-efficient alternative energy solutions.
  • Understand the interaction between energy-consuming building systems and consumer needs to make recommendations for the more efficient use of energy.
  • Develop energy evaluation technical reports and make presentations for potential project or program implementation.
  • Use appropriate information resources to research
  • professional issues.
  • Collect, display, discuss, and analyze data to make recommendations on individual projects, programs and program design, and policies.
